BETTER PEDESTRIAN ACCESS TO WILKINSBURG

BUSWAY STATION SOUGHT

     WILKINSBURG BOROUGH COUNCIL

SUPPORTS CITIZEN REQUEST

Pittsburgh, Jan. 24 - For the second time in as many

years, Glenn A. Walsh asked the Port Authority of

Allegheny County for better pedestrian access to the

newly relocated Wilkinsburg Station on the Martin

Luther King, Jr. East Busway. According to Mr. Walsh,

a large staircase and wheelchair ramp not currently in

use, at the original station site, could provide easy

and more direct access between the newly relocated

Busway station and the Wilkinsburg business district.

All that would be needed would be to construct a

sidewalk from the original inbound platform to the new

inbound platform, Mr. Walsh added.

Mr. Walsh made these comments, today, at the monthly

meeting of the Board of Directors of the Port

Authority of Allegheny County. He had made similar

comments a year ago, at the monthly meeting of the

Board's Engineering and Construction Committee.

On January 22, Wilkinsburg Borough Council passed a

resolution, by a unanimous vote, supporting Mr.

Walsh's proposal for enhanced pedestrian access to the

Wilkinsburg Busway Station.
