Public Notice Regarding Grass-Roots Campaign to Oppose Firing of Stan Campbell, Long-Time Library Director of the Carnegie Public Library, Poseyville, Indiana – 2005 October 4 --

Andrew Carnegie, upon establishing his first Library, specifically stated in the trust agreement…”The Library shall be free to the people forever…”

People of Poseyville, this is YOUR LIBRARY!!!!  Do not turn away from what our current generation  and future generations in Poseyville, need and deserve.

The Library has made many decisions in the past several weeks, which have greatly affected our community.  Recent and possibly soon to be changes, may jeopardize the continuing freedoms we have as American citizens.

If a Library Board cannot clearly communicate with a Library Director, why he was fired….how can they communicate and make sound rulings that are in the best interest of the Library?

What else are they not communicating to the People of Poseyville?  What are they not doing, or maybe doing to our Library?  What type of unforeseen censorship of books and media that are now in place in our library could be taken away, or we may never see?

Maybe our County Commissioners, County Council and the North Posey County School Board should take an interesting trip to the Library Board Meetings, to see what is happening.  After all, they are the ones that can determine who to appoint or remove from the Library Board.

The October 4th Library Board meeting should be very interesting….is the Library Board going to hire someone to replace Stan?   If so, is this not a very short time to find someone?  A 2 week period leaves one to wonder how much thought process the Library Board took to determine who they need.  Just putting an ad in the Posey County Paper doesn’t give many qualified candidates across the state much notice.  Was there a pre-determined candidate waiting at the back door while Stan was put out the front door?

Are some members of the Library Board competent to make just decisions on hiring and firing of Library staff?  Are they competent to decide for the citizens of Poseyville and the Library itself what should be in OUR library?  Many of the decisions that this Board may be choosing to put in place, may be unwise and rash, due to what we have already heard.

OUR LIBRARY SHOULD HAVE WHAT OTHER LIBRARIES NOW OFFER; WE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO GO TO ANOTHER COUNTY, DUE TO THE LIBRARY BOARD’S CENSORSHIP AND CLOSED MINDEDNESS.

Please come to the Library Board Meeting….many of us in Poseyville want to be heard.  Do we think the Board will listen to us….lets hope so….this is America where all should have the right to speak!  Or are they wanting to censor us and have things there own way?  Very self controlling….they may end up the only ones using the electricity in the Library building.

HOPE TO SEE YOU OCT. 4TH…TUESDAY…6:00PM AT THE LIBRARY
