Andrew Carnegie Free Library
and Music Hall
Dear Library Trustees:
Last month, I learned that
long-time Library Life Trustee Elizabeth “Betsy” Bell Martin left the Board of
Trustees of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall after 22 years of
service. This is a remarkable accomplishment.
In addition to her several
years as Board President and Vice President, she spent the entire 22 years
working to ensure the Library remained open to serve the residents of Carnegie
and the
Jean L. Leipold, who left the
Library Board of Trustees in 1999, was another long-time Board member and Board
President who worked hard to keep the Library open during the trying times of
the 1980s and 1990s. At my suggestion, the Library Board of Trustees conferred
the title of Trustee Emeritus upon
Ms. Leipold, by a unanimous vote on 1999 October 26.
I strongly believe that any
member of the Board of Trustees, who goes above and beyond the call of duty,
deserves the title of Trustee Emeritus,
once they leave the Board. With all of the work she did over 22 years,
certainly Betsy Martin deserves this honor.
I would ask that, at a
regular Board meeting in the near future, the Board of Trustees of the Andrew
Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall confer the title of Trustee Emeritus on Elizabeth “Betsy” Bell Martin.
